Akrotiri village on Santorini Greece

Akrotiri 01Akrotiri Santorini: You will find Akrotiri next to the famous Red beach. It is the most important archaeological site of Santorini Greece, with some amazing two and three-storey buildings and prehistoric findings dating back to 3600 BC.
Akrotiri was a Minoan city, similar to those found in Crete Island. The inside of the houses were covered by frescoes of flowers, dolphins, fishing, boxing scenes, etc. They allowed researchers to discover the way this civilisation lived on the island. Today, after a lot of travelling around the world, the frescos are exposed at the Archaeological Museum of Athens. Due to the volcanic soil, the site's houses and wall-paintings have been very well preserved.

In Acrotiri you can also enjoy your dinner in one of the many "tavernas" built inside the rock. There is also a small caiki, the traditional Greek fishing boat, that will get you to the famous Red Beach (Kokkini akti) and White Beach (Aspri akti). With the same boat, you can enjoy a tour to the Volcano Islands, Nea kai Palia Kameni.
