Week long with kids...

Review:
We stayed in Santorini in the first week of October 2011. Found it to be a great time as the weather is still warm, by Canadian standards, and after the peak tourist season.
We stayed at the Filotera Villa in Oia (not confused with one in Imerovigli). Nikos, Maria and family were very nice and accommodating. Had the apt across the street, and it was great, as not too warm for that time of year.
There is a restaurant next door that has good food and is part of Nikos' family. They were always happy to see the kids and actually let them into the kitchen and showed them around.
Oia is a wonderful place. There is a park, which is the primary school yard not too far down the path for the kids to play in while one of us went shopping.
We took the bus a few times, which is easy and fun. However I also recommend renting a car for a day or two to allow for longer stays in the various villages.
There are MANY beaches, not including the ones listed on this site. However the word "beach" can be loosely used. We went swimming in spots that had no sand, just rocks / docks to jump off of. Such as as the two in Oia (port of Ammoudi and around the point to the other port). Most of the time it is indicated by faintly painted sign on a rock.
The kids enjoyed Perissa and Kamari as their two favourites. Red beach is wonderful, but can be a bit of an awkward hike from the parking, or worse, from the Akrotiri bus stop.
Truly had a lovely time and would go back in a heart beat.
